Haven’t been able to do much work since last week, but here’s my one work in progress.
Moodboard for project 3
My project 3 idea is an opening to a TV series. The TV series it will be the opening to will be a series about the struggle between two nations at war – a community of angels and their God, and a community of fallen / dark angels and their Devil. My project will be an illustrated animated sequence depicting the history of how the war between the two races started – or more specifically – how the fallen / dark angel race came to be.
The story within the opening sequence will be about a male angel living in the angel community. He has a female friend that he has liked for a long time. Unfortunately, she is infatuated with another guy. In a jealous rage, the main character ends up murdering the other man in the middle of the night. When the other angels and their God find out about this, they condemn him and exile him from their community. This includes depleting him of his angelic powers and his wings. In agony and pain, the main character lies alone in a barren landscape, when help in the form of the Devil arrives. In anger, the main character creates a pact with the Devil and becomes a fallen / dark angel. In the last scene, we zoom in on his eyes and face and the title appears in white against his new dark wings.
The method I will use to create these scenes is digital illustration via Photoshop and a Wacom Intuos4 tablet. I will try to use pure hand drawn illustrations in all of my pieces, with little to no filters and editing work from Photoshop. I’ve always been interested in digital illustration on Photoshop, so this will be great exercise for me. The only problem I can foresee if that I have nine proposed scenes, and each scene will probably take 6+ hours to illustrate. I might eliminate one or two slides to make my workload a little more reasonable.
Just a bunch of basic digital sketches for my illustrations. One for each scene. I have 9 total (so much work!) so I might extract / combine one or two. :)
Basic Story ::
1. Worshiping / Praying
A group of angels worshiping / praying. Pretty much just a flashy scene - I could pull this scene out if it’s too much work.
2. Friends having fun
Main char and the female friend he likes playing around and having fun. :)
3. Jealousy
He sees her with another man. Jealousy ensues.
4. Murder
He murders the other man (envy).
5. Condemnation
The top angel / God condemns him.
6. Agony / Suffering
He goes through physical and emotional pain / agony as his wings are taken away and he is stripped of his angelic nature.
7. Meeting the Devil
As he lies in pain and emptiness, the devil comes by..
8. Transformation
After making a pact with the devil, he begins to take darkness into himself.
9. The Beginning - Title Scene
He is now risen as a fallen / dark angel. Title sequence.
Here are some sketches for my project 3.
I did a quick study of wings (because practically all my characters will have them), and a quick sketch of the basic storyline. Nothing set in stone yet, but here it is so far. :)
So, my project 3 is probably going to be like an opening intro / history for a tv series where there are two nations at war - the angels and the falled (dark) angels. It’s going to all be illustration (on Photoshop), so I have a lot of work ahead of myself.. Fighting!
Final for project 2! What do you guys think?
